Nisha married Ankit nearly two years ago after leaving her home. She was found dead at her home in Madanpur Khadar, South East Delhi, on June 5
NEW DELHI — Questions surround the death of 19-year-old Muslim girl Nisha after her husband, Ankit, said she died by suicide, while her family alleges gang-rape, assault, and murder.
Nisha was found dead at her home in Madanpur Khadar, South East Delhi, on June 5. The incident has sparked protests from her family and locals, who are demanding a fair and transparent investigation.
Family’s Allegations
According to the family, Nisha married Ankit nearly two years ago after leaving her home. Relatives allege she faced continuous abuse during the marriage and was assaulted before her death. They have also raised allegations of gang-rape and murder.
Nisha’s brother, Naseem, said the family learned of her death through a mutual acquaintance. “A friend of mine heard Ankit telling others that his wife had died. We rushed to the house and found my sister dead inside,” he alleged.
The family claims they found the room locked from the outside. After forcing the lock open, they say they discovered Nisha’s body inside with a cooler and a fan running. Relatives further allege there were visible injury marks on her body.
“She was pregnant, and there were signs of severe assault,” one family member claimed, alleging that multiple people were involved.
The acquaintance, identified as Rohan, said he overheard conversations about the incident and alerted Nisha’s family. “I heard them saying his wife had died. I immediately informed her relatives,” he said.
Family members say Ankit initially claimed Nisha died by suicide, but they dispute that account and are calling for a detailed forensic investigation.
Police Action and Arrest
According to the family, police later registered an FIR and arrested Ankit. However, they allege that several other accused remain absconding.
The family also claims they have not yet received copies of the FIR or the post-mortem report from Safdarjung Hospital, where the body was sent. They allege delays in the investigation and say police did not act immediately.
Protest Near Police Station
Family members and local activists gathered near Kalindi Kunj Police Station, demanding justice and action against all those allegedly involved.
One activist claimed protesters were asked to leave while seeking updates on the case.
“We only want justice for Nisha and a proper investigation into all the allegations,” the activist said.
Demand for Fair Investigation
The family has called for a time-bound probe into the allegations of murder, assault, and gang-rape. They are also seeking the arrest of all persons allegedly linked to the incident.
Police have not yet issued a detailed public response to the family’s allegations. The investigation is ongoing.
