NEW DELHI – In a heart-wrenching incident, a group of goons in Aligarh inhumanely thrashed a Muslim man who was allegedly carrying drugs intended to anaesthetise animals, as per a purported video shared by Hindutva Watch, a research initiative tracking hate crimes. Shockingly, instead of taking action against the assailants, the police arrested the victim.
The Hindutva Watch on Monday shared a short clip of the horrific incident, which occurred in Tappal town in the Aligarh district of western Uttar Pradesh, with a tweet stating “assault of the Muslim man over suspicion of cattle slaughter.”
After the video went viral on social media, the Aligarh police issued a statement, informing about the arrest of the Muslim man, identified as Qasim. According to the police, Qasim was caught by the residents in Tappal while he was moving around in a suspicious manner. The police, however, did not mention any action being taken against the perpetrators.
In the video, the self-claimed cow protectors were shown mercilessly assaulting the Muslim man, identified as Qasim, disregarding his desperate pleas for mercy. The victim is a resident of Upperkot town.
The captured footage showed that the perpetrators were interrogating Qasim about two other Muslim men, Matin and Ikram. The mob asked the victim about a tiny bottle and then began beating him up. The assailants claimed the tiny bottle contained drugs for sedating cattle.
On receiving a tip-off, the police force reached the spot and took him into custody. During the checking, they found certain drugs which are used to sedate animals. Later, Qasim was sent to jail.
The police also formed a team to arrest two other persons and divulge details of the previous five cases filed against Qasim. The other two people who were booked by the police are Matin Qureshi and Ikram.
However, there are calls on social media, demanding the arrest of the cow protectors with many expressing shock over the arrest of Qasim.
