NEW DELHI— Prominent Muslim groups have expressed profound shock over the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, chief of the  Palestinian resistance group Hamas, in Tehran allegedly by Israeli intelligence agency.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hindi, both factions of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawrat (AIMMM) and All India Muslim Personal Law Board chief Khalid Saifullah Rahmani called Haniyeh a “martyr” while slamming Israel’s ‘terrorism”.

On Wednesday, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind chief Syed Sadatullah Husaini expressed profound shock over the martyrdom of the Hamas leader, condemning the assassination as yet another act of fanatical terrorism by Israel.

He emphasised that Israel has killed thousands of civilians and subjected the population of Gaza to brutal bombings and massacres. Previously, several members of Haniyeh’s family were martyred, and now the former prime minister of Palestine himself has been targeted during a diplomatic visit to a third country. This shameful act, Husaini asserted, is a result of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s terror regime. He stated that with this cowardly brutality, Israel has once again shown its disinterest in peace efforts and demonstrated how it poses a serious threat to regional and global peace.

In his statement, Husaini expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, affirming that Muslims and righteous individuals worldwide share their grief. He noted that the history of the Palestinian people is marked by sacrifice and martyrdom, serving as an inspiration to righteous people everywhere.

Haniyeh’s martyrdom, he said, adds a new chapter to the history of Palestinian struggle. “Martyrdom does not weaken movements; instead, it infuses them with new strength and vigor. The martyrdom of Shaheed Ismail Haniyeh will further fortify the Palestinian freedom movement and aid in the liberation and restoration of the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people, God willing,” he said.

He called on the Government of India to raise a strong voice against this blatant barbarity and violation of international laws, urging effective diplomatic measures to halt Israel’s ongoing genocidal war in Gaza.

AIMMM chief Zafarul Islam Khan said: “We present heart-felt condolences to the family of martyr Ismail Haniyeh and the mujahid and patient Palestinian people and wish to say that the sacrifices of the Palestinian people and the innocent blood of their people and leader will not go in vain. Today, all peace-loving people of the world are standing with the people of Palestine. Soon will rise the dawn dreamt by martyr Shaikh Ahmad Yasin and martyr Ismail Haniyeh”.

AIMMM led by Firoz Ahmed described the assassination of Haniyeh as “terror attack” asserting that the killing of the Hamas leader will be a blow to the ongoing efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, prominent Islamic scholar and chief of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said the assassination of Haniyeh is not only an attack on justice and freedom but also a murder of human values and international laws.

Rahmani also called on Muslims to aid Palestinians in whatever ways possible and wholeheartedly boycott products of the companies which are supporting Israel in its genocidal Gaza war.
