NEW DELHI – A video of three Muslim children being assaulted and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district has sparked outrage and protest against the incident.
Although the police said that the incident occurred at the Amrit Sagar Garden over a month ago, the video of the incident had gone viral on Tuesday. The three children are 6, 9, 12-year-old.
The video shows a man repeatedly hitting the children with a slipper and slapping them on their face while asking them to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The man can also be heard reprimanding the children for saying ‘Allah’ after they were hit. Then, the children went on to say ‘Bhagwan’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’. He kept thrashing them even after the children shouted ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
According to reports, the man found those children smoking cigarette and started thrashing them. When they shouted ‘Allah’ out of pain, the attacker started beating them up more.
As the video went viral, Muslims in the area held protest in front of the police station demanding the arrest of the accused immediately. Following the protest, the police was forced to file a Zero FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) including 296, 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), 196, and 3(5).
SSP Rakesh Khakha said that the police is looking for the accused and the cyber department was asked to look into the video.
Local Muslim leaders have condemned the incident calling “inhuman act” while urging the administration to take strict action in the matter.
“In the video, it is evident that the incident involved three minor children. Near Amrit Sagar old garden, which is undergoing renovation, the kids were playing there. From their perspective, it was just a game,” said Imran Khokar, a local leader.
Meanwhile, people on social media also expressed their anger and outrage as the video surfaced on X.
Prominent human rights activist Apoorvanand said “Is this gundaism becoming the feature of Hindus? Educated, uneducated; rich, poor; men, women, old, young all seem to be enjoying this power over Muslims. Is this not because the state is with them? But do Hindus themselves not need to think what they are becoming?”.
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta said “This cowardly monster MUST BE CAUGHT and severely punished. These poor kids will be traumatised for life”.
Reacting to the video, Muslim activist Asif Mujtaba said “In #Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, 3 Muslim kids were thrashed & forced to chant hindu religious slogans. This is what hate against Muslims is doing in India. Imagine the pain of being Muslim in world’s largest democracy. Houses & Mosque being bulldozed, kept in jail for no crimes, lynched to death by hindutva mob and now not even the kids are spared. What kind of Nation are we progressing into?”
