Minor Muslim Student Gang-raped in UP’s Kannauj, Accused Absconding

Date:

The girl was kidnapped from the madrasa by the accused named Deepu, who told her that her mother wanted to see her

NEW DELHI —In a macabre act in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj District, a 14-year-old Muslim girl student of a madrasa was allegedly kidnapped, kept hostage for three days and was repeatedly raped by one of his Hindu acquaintances.

The incident happened on May 3 and was discovered a couple of days later when the victim got access to a mobile phone and informed her father. She was kidnapped from the madrasa by the accused named Deepu, who told her that her mother wanted to see her.

Believing the accused, the victim followed him to a house where she realised that she had been trapped and tried to run away. But Deepu and his associates forced her to get into the house by gagging her mouth. She was held there in a state of helplessness.

According to reports reaching here, the victim was forcibly made to consume alcohol, after which she fell unconscious. Deepu and his associates repeatedly raped her and, in a grotesque attempt, applied sindoor on her forehead and a toe ring on her feet. These are considered sacred symbols of a newly married Hindu woman.

Akeel, the victim’s father, after receiving a call from her daughter on May 5, ventured out to search for her, who had informed him that she could see her madrasa from the place of her captivation.

The victim’s family and other neighbours, after a hectic search, found the victim tied to the roof of Deepu’s house in a bad shape. She was rushed to a hospital, where she is still under treatment.

The accused Depu is said to be at large, and one of his associates has been taken into custody, according to reports. An FIR has also been registered against the accused under various sections of the law.

Observers and social activists have condemned the incident in the strongest terms. The incident calls for immediate action against the increasing incidents of harassment targeting Muslim girls.
