Officials plan the removal of the structure, citing safety and expansion requirements
NEW DELHI — The railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad has become the centre of attention after redevelopment work under the Amrit Bharat scheme raised questions over a mazar located between railway tracks.
The station project, worth around ₹21 crore, aims to modernise facilities and improve passenger services. However, during a recent inspection, concerns were raised about the structure being within the railway operational zone.
A Member of Parliament, Mukesh Rajput, visited the site and supported the redevelopment plan. He said, “Railway or highway guidelines clearly state that any obstruction within operational land must be removed, and the same will apply here as well.”
Railway authorities have stated that the mazar stands on government land and could create safety risks for train movement and expansion work. Officials have indicated that steps are being considered for its removal as part of the redevelopment process.
The issue has led to discussion at the local level. Some residents have expressed concern over how the matter is handled, while others say development work should continue without obstruction.
A local said, “We understand development is needed, but any decision should consider community feelings and law and order.”
Members of the Hindu Raksha Dal also visited the area, issuing a warning and demanding the removal of the structure. A representative of the group stated, “If temples have been removed for development projects, then this should also not remain. Otherwise, protests will follow.”
At present, no formal statement has been issued by major Muslim organisations on the issue. However, local conversations continue as people wait for clarity on the next administrative step.
Railway officials maintain that the primary concern remains passenger safety and infrastructure expansion. Further decisions are expected once the internal review process is completed.
