The Rampur administration has issued a notice to Abdullah Azam demanding a recovery of Rs 1.68 crore for allegedly underpaying stamp duty by declaring residential land as agricultural estate.

RAMPUR – The woes of Samajwadi Party’s former MLA Abdullah Azam, already serving a seven-year sentence for presenting two birth certificates, have multiplied. The Rampur administration has issued a notice to him demanding a recovery of Rs 1.68 crore for allegedly underpaying stamp duty by declaring residential land as agricultural land.
The notice has been dispatched to Abdullah Azam, son of Samajwadi Party stalwart Azam Khan, in Hardoi Jail, where he is currently incarcerated.
Abdullah Azam faces allegations of selling a property in 2022 claiming it to be an agricultural land. The land in Ghatampur was sold through three separate sale deeds, despite its proximity to populated areas.
The District Magistrate’s Court on Friday issued a notice to Abdullah Azam in Hardoi Jail, soliciting his response.
Initially, the notice was dispatched to Abdullah Azam’s residence, but it went unacknowledged. Consequently, the notice has been redirected to Hardoi Jail.
Presently, Azam Khan is imprisoned in Sitapur Jail, while his wife, Dr. Tanzin Fatima, is detained in Rampur Jail.
With the recent notice demanding a significant amount in stamp duty evasion, Azam’s legal woes have further escalated.
