NEW DELHI —
Two Muslim brothers donning skull caps were attacked by a gang of bike-borne goons with sharp-edged weapons on Wednesday in Khargone, the Madhya Pradesh town that witnessed anti-Muslim riots in April. The attack left both the brothers badly injured.

According to reports from a local correspondent, the duo was going to a vegetable market near a bus stand when the goons waylaid them. The men on bikes first hurled religious slurs. When met with resistance from the two brothers, they attacked them with sharp-edged weapons.

Soon, the two injured brothers were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were undergoing treatment till the last reports came in.
District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) visited the hospital to take stock of the situation. The SP, Dharamveer Singh, told the media that the police have taken note of the incident and that the culprits have been apprehended. He said a case under relevant sections would also be filed after investigating the CCTV footage.

Khargone had witnessed fierce communal violence in April when Hindu extremists went berserk during Ram Navami procession taken through Muslim areas. The follow-up action from the administration in the aftermath of the violence was allegedly a lopsided exercise loaded against Muslims which the observers say has emboldened the anti-social elements from the majority community.

Savage mob attack on Muslim brothers shows riot-hit Khargone still tense. — A still from the Twitter video.
