Case filed after a complaint against Hindu Aikya Vedi leader RV Babu by PDP’s Ashraf Vazhakkala, alleging objectionable communal remarks during Operation Toofan anti-drug drive
KOCHI — Kerala Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against RV Babu, the state president of the right-wing Hindu Aikya Vedi (Hindu United Forum), following allegations that he made objectionable and communal remarks in a Facebook post.
According to the police, the post allegedly linked members of the Muslim community with drug trafficking and terrorism during the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, “Operation Toofan”.
A senior police officer said, “We have received a formal complaint and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of law for promoting enmity between communities and disturbing public peace. The matter is under investigation.”
The complaint was filed by Ashraf Vazhakkala, a leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who alleged that the remarks were false, harmful, and capable of creating communal tension.
In his complaint, Vazhakkala stated, “Such statements are completely baseless and target an entire community without evidence. This can damage social harmony in the state.”
Police officials confirmed that the post is being examined and that RV Babu will be issued a notice for questioning in the coming days.
The FIR has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Kerala Police Act relating to spreading hatred, insulting religious sentiments, and causing public disorder.
Authorities added that the investigation is ongoing and all angles of the case are being reviewed. The incident has also triggered discussion in political and social circles in Kerala.
RV Babu has earlier also been linked with controversial statements, according to police records and previous complaints.
