GULBARGA – Hindu seer Marularadhya Shivacharya Swami has been booked for his provocative speech during an event at the Basaveshwara Circle in Afzalpur demanding the disbanding of the Waqf Board.
Addressing a gathering in Gulbarga District’s Afzalpur in Karnataka on Sunday, Marularadhya Shivacharya said, “They say they are ready to give up their lives and even take lives. They claim that all the youths in Afzalpur have swords at their houses and say they are ready to chop anyone who comes in their way. Let us stop giving pens in the hands of our youths and let us give swords instead”.
The police have filed an FIR against Marularadhya Shivacharya for provoking religious sentiments under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS) Sections 299 and 353/2.
On Monday, Home Minister G. Parameshwar criticised the seer for provocative speech and assured that action would be taken against him for his remarks.
“Religious leaders should act according to their faith. They should not incite people. Saying that children should be given swords is inappropriate. No seer should make provocative statements,” he said in Bengaluru.
