Jharkhand Minister Highlights Role of Madrasas in Nation-Building

Those who look at madrasas with suspicion should study their history more carefully, says Dr Irfan Ansari

RANCHI – Inaugurating a residential hostel in Godda district, Dr Irfan Ansari, Jharkhand’s Minister for Rural Development, strongly defended the role of madrasas in society. He emphasised that those who question the significance of madrasas are often unaware of their rich history. He highlighted the contributions of madrasa scholars to India’s independence movement and noted that students from these institutions are now becoming IAS, PCS officers, doctors, and engineers.

“Madrasas are playing a crucial role in educating children from underprivileged backgrounds and are contributing significantly to nation-building. Those who look at madrasas with suspicion should study their history more carefully,” Dr Ansari said.

The event also marked the inauguration of Masjid Al-Rahma, a newly constructed mosque, by Sheikh Haroon Malik Abdul Haq, a guest from Madinah. Sheikh Haroon, who runs a large educational institution in the Prophet’s City with thousands of students, and promised to undertake more welfare projects in the future.

Following the inauguration, a short gathering was held in the newly built mosque. Dr Ansari, Sheikh Haroon, and Maulana Mufti Ahmad Deola from Bharuch, Gujarat, addressed the audience, emphasising the importance of education and training.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Godda, Dr Ansari said, “I am deeply thankful to the people of Godda who treat me with such love, just like their own family.” Towards the end of the event, special prayers were offered for Dr Ansari’s late mother, and he announced a donation of Rs 5 lakh in her name for the madrasa.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Atta Rahman Siddiqui, District Congress Minority Cell President Arshad Wahab, Congress leader Alamgir Alam, Master Yasir Arafat Nadwi, Maulana Ikramul Haq, Maulana Muhammad Shamim Nadwi, Maulana Naseem Nadwi, Maulana Murshid Nadwi, and Syed Iqbal Hasan (Romi).

Dr Irfan Ansari is the son of former lawmaker Furqan Ansari.
