Janhastakshep, an association dedicated to combating fascist forces in the country, condemned the brutal murder of a tailor in Udaipur in no uncertain terms. Calling Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad, who hacked Kanhaiya Lal to death in his shop, criminal elements, a press release of the Janhastakshep said their act undermines the true followers of Islam.

Acknowledging that the victim had shared the derogatory comments made by the former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Muhammad, the association said, “His (Kanhaiya’s) social media post is neither a justification nor is it a mitigating factor for the heinous crime committed by the duo.

Hotheads

It further said, “The crime committed by the duo, in fact, undermined all the true followers of Islam and imperiled the safety of their lives and property. This act, they said most certainly weakens the fight for establishing a truly secular society.”

They said the two hotheads in effect, strengthened the hands of those in power whose job it is to whip up communal hysteria and divide the people on religious lines.

“Indulging in such terrorist acts in the name of religion,” they said “amounts to playing into the hands of those fanning communal fires by giving them a justification to pursue their nefarious designs.”

Appeal

Hence, the Janhastakshep made a fervent appeal to the people to not be provoked by any cowardly and criminal act, lest we fail to identify the root cause of this malaise that is taking over our society. It is our collective duty to fight against belligerent attempts being made by vested interests to engulf our society in a communal cauldron.
