The delegation tours Kapurthala, Pathankot, and Jalandhar districts, meets local leaders and residents, and assures victims of coordinated assistance
NEW DELHI – Punjab is currently facing severe flooding that has disrupted daily life across multiple districts, leaving families stranded and communities struggling to recover. Amid this crisis, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has taken proactive steps to provide relief to the affected population.
A delegation led by the organisation’s National Secretary, Maulana Shafi Madni, along with senior officials, recently visited flood-affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and offer immediate assistance. The team toured districts including Kapurthala and Pathankot, inspecting villages such as Sultanpur Lodhi, Sangra, Bawpur Jadeed, and in Jalandhar’s Koliya Tehsil, Sundar Chak, Bahadurpur, and Sindhpur.
In Koliya village alone, the floods have tragically claimed the lives of four residents, including three siblings and a 75-year-old woman. Around 30 homes have been destroyed, reflecting the severity of the situation.
During their visit, the Jamaat-e-Islami delegation met with local Sikh leaders, government officials, and residents to understand urgent needs for food, shelter, and medical support.
Speaking to the media, Maulana Shafi Madni said, “Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is working tirelessly to provide food, drinking water, shelter, and medical facilities to families affected by the floods, so that they can resume normal life as soon as possible.”
He added, “Together with our allied organisations, we are ensuring that essential resources and facilities reach those affected. Our aim is to support these families until their lives return to normal.”
Maulana Shafi Madni further assured residents of the organisation’s sustained commitment: “We will continue relief work until the situation stabilises. We stand in solidarity with the victims and express our deep sympathy for their loss. Every possible effort will be made to assist them in this time of crisis.”
The delegation’s visit highlights the critical role of community-led initiatives in disaster management and the importance of swift assessment and coordinated relief during natural calamities. By engaging directly with affected communities, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind aims to fill gaps in relief efforts, ensuring that both immediate and long-term needs are met.
This human-centred approach demonstrates the organisation’s dedication to supporting families during emergencies and reflects a strong commitment to solidarity and compassion in the face of adversity.
