Inspiring Journey: Visually Impaired Jadiya Asjad Completes Her Ph.D

Although she recovered from her comatose situation, a new reality of darkness hit her as she lost her eyesight. Undeterred by the challenge, Jadiya resolved to continue her education.

NEW DELHI — As a testament to her unwavering determination and resilience, Jadiya Asjad, visually impaired daughter of Dr Asjad Jamal from Mohalla Pura Rani of Mubarakpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh District, has achieved a remarkable feat by obtaining a Ph.D Her inspirational journey serves as a beacon of hope and sets her as a role model for many.

Jadiya, initially not disabled, excelled in academics, securing top positions during her high school and intermediate studies at Ansar Girls Inter College in Kasbah. However, tragedy struck on Women’s Day in August 2008 when she suffered a severe headache, leading to a month-long coma. Although she recovered from her comatose situation, a new reality of darkness hit her as she lost her eyesight. Undeterred by the challenge, Jadiya resolved to continue her education.

Undoubtedly, it was a daunting task, but Jadiya’s determination remained unshaken. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 2015, followed by a Master’s degree in 2017. 

In 2012 when she joined AMU for her Bachelor’s degree, she attended her classes completely relying on her friends who read lessons for her and offered all sorts of assistance in her pursuit of educational excellence.

Jadiya achieved notable milestones, qualifying the NET in 2017 and GRF in 2019. She aspires to be a professor soon.

Dr Asjad Jamal Rashidi, Jadiya’s father, expressed pride in his daughter’s accomplishments, highlighting her decision to live up to the meaning of her name, “the top of the mountain.” He acknowledged the challenges Jadiya faced but commended her for completing her Ph.D with resilience and determination. Prof. Siraj Ajmali, a teacher and supporter, played a crucial role in Jadiya’s academic journey, treating her like a daughter, the proud father said.

Jadiya’s impressive academic journey also got a solid backing from her husband, Feroze Akhtar, who stood by her through thick and thin. Dr Asjad Jamal also recognised the contributions of Maulana Abdul Rab Azmi, President of Jamiat Ulama, Uttar Pradesh, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, President of Jamiat Ulama Azamgarh, and several others from institutions like Amara Dahi Major Girls Degree, Nigar Bano Inter College, and Haji Zafar Ahmed Haji Sulaiman Akhtar Shamsi Zywwar Gul, and Hafiz Abul Aas Rashidi.

Jadiya Asjad’s story serves as an inspiration; she was able to break all barriers and proved that one’s abilities can surpass any disability. Her pursuit of knowledge, resilience, and academic achievements have made her a shining example for others facing similar challenges.
