Elderly Muslim Man Killed in UP’s Mahoba For Objecting to Loud Music at Birthday Party

Date:

NEW DELHI — What began as a birthday celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district this week ended in tragedy when a dispute over blaring DJ music turned fatal for a 65-year-old Muslim man. His sole “offense”: asking for the volume to be lowered late at night.

The confrontation unfolded on May 11 in Kanshiram Colony, under the jurisdiction of Charkhari police station. According to reports, tempers flared between the family of the deceased, Zahid and a group of locals playing loud music at a birthday party being held at the home of a resident named Usha.

When Zahid’s family objected to the ear-splitting noise, tensions boiled over. A group of men allegedly stormed into Zahid’s home and attacked him and other family members. In the violent scuffle, Zahid sustained severe injuries and collapsed.

The assault was caught on video and quickly spread across social media. The footage purportedly shows men beating members of the family, including women, and attacking Zahid as he lies motionless on the ground.

Zahid was rushed to the district hospital in critical condition. Doctors referred him to a higher medical facility in Jhansi, but he succumbed to his injuries. Police officials, however, said he died en route.

Acting on a complaint from the victim’s family and the viral video evidence, police have registered a case. Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.

A police officer from Charkhari Circle stated, “A complaint was received from Shamia, a resident of Kanshiram Colony, alleging that Salman and two others assaulted her family members. A case has been registered, and legal action is being taken.”

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
