NEW DELHI — Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday called for an urgent ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and questioned India’s stand in the conflict.

“The merciless bombing of Gaza continues with even more savagery than before the truce. Food supplies are scarce, medical facilities have been destroyed and basic amenities have been shut down,” she said in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

She stressed it is the country’s duty as a member of the international community to “stand up for what is right”.

Priyanka Gandhi noted the casualties in the ongoing bloody battle between Israeli forces and Hamas and asked the international community to unite against killings.

“An entire nation is being wiped out. These are people with dreams and hopes just like the rest of us. They are being ruthlessly thrown to their deaths right before our eyes. Where is our humanity?” she tweeted.

“India has always stood up for what is just on the international stage. We fought for sanctions against the apartheid regime of South Africa, we supported our brothers and sisters in Palestine from the beginning of their long struggle for freedom, and now we stand back and do nothing as a genocide takes place wiping them out from the face of the earth,” Priyanka Gandhi wrote on X.

On several other earlier occasions Priyanka had expressed her dismay and discomfort at the Israeli assault on civilians in the impoverished and besieged Gaza Strip.

Last month as over 11,000 Palestinians were martyred in the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, Priyanka alleged that various international laws were violated with impunity.

“There is no international law left which has not been violated. There is no such dignity which has not been violated. There is no such rule which has not been flouted. When will humanity wake up? After losing so many lives. After sacrificing so many children. Is the consciousness of being human left? Did it ever exist?” the Congress leader added in a tweet.
