Imran Khan in Malaysia to Seek Mahathir Mohammad’s Advice on Economic Crisis

Malaysian premier stressed on the need for shared cooperation which would prove beneficial for both sides.

PUTRAJAYA — Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said he wants to learn from Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohammad’s experiences to steer his country out of crisis and transform and develop its economy as he landed in Malaysia on a two-day official  visit, The News reported.

Imran Khan was given an official welcome at the Dataran Perdana where he was greeted on arrival by Prime Minister  Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Both the leaders held a joint press conference after Mahathir Mohamad welcomed Mr Khan and his delegation.

Prime minister Khan  invited his Malaysian counterpart to visit Pakistan to grace the Pakistan Day ceremony on March 23 in Islamabad.

He said one of the main reasons behind his visit to Malaysia was “0ut of admiration of Mahathir Mohammad. ”

“We look upon you as a statesman, someone who transformed  his country, we have followed Malaysia’s progress,especially Mr Prime Minister when you came to office. We and my party want to learn from your experience,how you transformed an economy, developed it, raised the per capita income and raised the GDP.

Presently both of our governments are in similar situations. We both came to power, people gave us mandate on an anti-corruption platform, and we faced similar situations.

We face unprecedented debt, there was lot to share. We want to talk to you about how deal with the crisis and to come out of it.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said during the presser that Pakistan and Malaysia are facing the same challenges.

During the press conference with Prime Minister Imran Khan the Malaysian premier stressed on the need for shared cooperation which would prove beneficial for both sides.

Moreover, Dr Mahathir also publicized the decision to hold a dialogue partnership at the ASEAN group in addition to working on uplifting the shared assistance in the division of defence.

Pakistan PM unveils four-pronged strategy

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan unveiled his government’s four-pronged strategy to pull Pakistan out of its “quagmire of loans”.

While addressing the Pakistani community in Malaysia Pakistan premier said that the first step towards ridding the country of its chronic loan cycle is to increase exports.

The second step, the premier said, was to create legal channels for overseas Pakistanis to send their remittances through. He said that the finance minister was working on an incentive programme to make routing of remittances easier.
