HYDERABAD — Staunch Hindutva protagonist and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Goshamahal constituency in the city, T. Raja Singh, was on Thursday booked by the Mangalhat police for delivering a hate speech during a meeting early this month.

The case was registered against the firebrand leader under Section 125 (promoting enmity between classes in connection with election) of the Representation of the Public Act 1951, along with Sections 153 and 153 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the police, Singh delivered a hate speech at a community hall in Maharajgunj a few days back. After going through the video clip, the police booked a suo motu case against Singh, Goshamahal Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) C.P. Kotla Venkat Reddy was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Police have asked social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to take down Singh’s video allegedly delivering a hate speech during an election rally.

HindutvaWatch, a research initiative to monitor reports of attacks on members of religious minorities in India, put out a screenshot of the correspondence from X regarding the matter.

Raja Singh spewed hate against the minorities in his speech at an event held at Goshamahal on Monday as part of his election campaigning.

Singh, in his speech, said this election is a matter of life and death for him. “I am not afraid of either dying or getting murdered. Before any brother indulges in traitorship…think twice. That’s because my enmity can be very costly,” Singh can be heard warning people in the video.

Further, he labelled the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) party as “traitors who should be expelled from the country.”

This is not the first time the Hindutva mascot has made hate speech, nor is this the first time that he has targeted the AIMIM.

“Hindu voters must unite and demonstrate their strength at the polls to the minorities who slaughter beef, engage in ‘love jihad’ and promote religious conversion. This is a battle of dharma (religion). We must work to make dharma win… I have been with you for protection from these Jihadis for the past ten years,” he said.

Raja Singh also said that the minority votes have gone up since 2018.

“15,000 to 17,000 bogus votes have increased in Goshamahal. Because these people have made a calculation from 2018. In 2018, the minority vote split between two places and that is why, this time, they are making sure it doesn’t happen. Their goal is to hoist the green flag in Goshamahal. This is their target,” he said.

Singh also claimed that minorities not just from across the country, but from around the world are sending funds in order to defeat him at Goshamahal.

“When I was in jail, many in the Old City said that they would cut the heads of Hindus. Beta, our heads are not of goats that your knife could come close to our necks. Before the knife comes closer, we can make your hands disappear,” he said to a round of applause.

Singh was suspended by the BJP and was arrested by the Hyderabad police for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). As the elections to Telangana state assembly neared the BJP revoked Singh’s suspension and allotted him a party ticket from Goshamahal.
