HYDERABAD — A piece of meat found in the Hanuman temple in Tappachabutra sparked widespread tension and protests in the area last week, but a swift police investigation has revealed an unexpected culprit—a cat. The incident, which led to heated protests and social media uproar, has now been resolved with the help of CCTV footage.
On the morning of Wednesday, February 11, temple priests discovered a 250-gram piece of meat behind the Shiva Lingam in the Sankata Vimochana Hanuman temple complex near Madina Hotel. The discovery quickly escalated into a major controversy, with Hindu organisations staging protests and demanding action against those responsible. Shops in the area were shut for days as tensions ran high, and social media was flooded with accusations targeting a particular community.
However, the police investigation took a surprising turn when CCTV footage from a camera outside the temple revealed a cat entering the premises with the meat in its mouth. The footage clearly showed the animal leaving the meat behind the Shiva Lingam, ruling out any human involvement.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vikram Singh Mann addressed the media, stating, “The CCTV footage clearly shows a cat entering the temple with the meat in its mouth. This was not a case of any human conspiracy but a mere coincidence.” He added that four special teams were formed to analyse the footage and investigate the incident thoroughly.
The police have urged the public to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation. “All the evidence has been placed before the public, and we have released the CCTV footage as proof. We hope this clarification will clear any misunderstandings,” said Mann.
The swift resolution of the case has been praised by officials, with the Commissioner of Police commending the efforts of the investigating teams. “The prompt action by the police and the use of modern technology helped solve this mystery in just a few hours,” a senior officer remarked.
Local residents and community leaders have welcomed the police’s findings. “We are relieved that the truth has come out. It is important to avoid jumping to conclusions and spreading false information,” said a temple trustee.
With the mystery solved, normalcy has returned to the area, and shops have reopened. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of relying on evidence and avoiding the spread of unverified claims, especially in sensitive situations.
