Hindutva Groups also Involved in Maddur Stone-pelting: Home Minister Parameshwara

TUMAKURU — Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday said that Hindutva organisations were also involved in the stone-pelting incident that took place during the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Maddur.

Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said, “Police have arrested more than 20 people in connection with the violence and they are being investigated. It is still not clear who exactly participated in the stone-pelting. Police have said that members of Hindutva organisations were also involved. The truth will be known after the investigation is completed.”

He further stated that the police initially tried to control the situation peacefully and even persuaded the organisations to maintain calm, Vartha Bharati.

“When things went out of control, lathi-charge was carried out. If those arrested are proven to have taken part in the stone-pelting, strict legal action will be taken against them,” the minister added.
