Gulf Crisis Threatens Regional Security: Kuwait Emir

Addressing the opening session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kuwait’s emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah said the crisis would have dangerous consequences on the Gulf security. 

KUWAIT CITY (AA) — Kuwait’s emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah has warned that the Gulf crisis was posing a threat to regional security.

Addressing the opening session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, the emir said the crisis would have dangerous consequences on the Gulf security.

In June, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain cut off diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism.

The four states presented a list of demands for Qatar to end their sanctions or face further penalties.

Kuwait, a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, tried to resolve the crisis, but the efforts have been fruitless.

“We are moving to prevent the Gulf house from destruction and collapse,” he said, going on to warn that the collapse of the GCC “will be a collapse of the last stronghold of the joint Arab action”. 

Qatar has denied the accusations and contends that the blockade was in violation of international law.
