Gaza: Five Palestinian Journalists Killed in Targeted Israeli Attacks

Date:

GAZA — Four Palestinian journalists were targeted and killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Sunday. The killing of a fifth journalist, who had been missing for two days, was also confirmed. This raises the death toll of journalists killed in Israeli attacks since the start of the Gaza genocide to at least 222.

Journalist Nour Qandil, her husband Khaled Abu Saif and their baby girl were killed in an attack on their home in Deir Al-Balah.

Journalist Aziz Al-Hajjar, along with his wife and children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Bir Al-Na’ja in northern Gaza.

Journalist Ahmed Al-Zainati, his wife and their children were killed after their tent was targeted in Sanabel camp in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Journalist Abdul Rahman Tawfiq Al-Abadlah was killed in the town of Al-Qarara in Khan Younis, after contact with him was lost for two days.

At least 125 Palestinians have been killed since dawn on Sunday in deadly Israeli attacks targeting crowded residential areas and tents across the Strip.

The last 72 hours in Gaza have been described by residents as “like living through the horrors of Judgment Day,” as Israel intensifies its attacks following the announcement of a large-scale extermination plan.

The current wave of attacks is among the most intense since Israel broke the January ceasefire agreement and resumed its assault on Gaza nearly two months ago.

Amid the intensifying strikes, the Israeli military announced on Saturday that forces had been mobilised for “Operation Gideon’s Chariots” to seize “strategic areas” of Gaza and claimed it had “struck over 150 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip” in 24 hours.

According to reports, the “Gideon’s Chariots” would see the Israeli forces occupy areas, move civilians to the south of the Strip, and take control of aid distribution.

Israeli forces have killed more than 53,200 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. At least 10,000 more people are missing and presumed dead, while nearly 120,000 have been wounded.
