Explosions Heard in Tehran As New Wave of Airstrikes Hit Iranian Capital

Date:

TEHRAN — A fresh wave of explosions rocked western Tehran on Monday afternoon, Iranian media reported, as a joint US-Israeli war against Tehran continued to intensify.

Media reports said multiple explosions were heard in Karaj in western Tehran as well as surrounding areas, carried out by Israeli-American fighter jets.

The sound of fighter jets flying was also heard over Shahr-e-Rey in western Tehran, followed by successive explosions. Almost ten to fifteen explosions were heard in the area.

There were also reports of fresh airstrikes in the central Iranian city of Isfahan on Monday.

There is still no confirmation on the precise targets of the fresh wave of attacks.

The war, which began with Israeli-American attacks on Feb. 28, has killed more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top military officials, and injured over 10,000 others, according to Iranian health authorities.

Almost 30 percent of the victims are children, the Health Ministry said.

Iran has retaliated by launching missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and Arab countries that are home to US military assets.

On Sunday, Iran’s Assembly of Experts announced Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the second-eldest son of Khamenei, as the country’s new supreme leader. — Anadolu Agency
