‘Direct Attack on Secular Nation’: Twitterati Up in Arms Against Citizenship Bill

NEW DELHI – As Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Lok Sabha on Monday amid strong opposition, Twitterati has  come out to oppose the religion-based legislation expressing their grave concern over changing the secular character of the nation.

The contentious bill which is facing opposition from across the country has provision to grant citizenship to all non-Muslim communities – Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddh, Parsi and Jain from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. People have been protesting against the bill due to granting citizenship on the basis of religion.

The protest also erupted on Twitter where the users raised their objections on the bill. Some people called the legislation “a direct attack on secular nation” while others highlighted how the bill is against the basic tenets of the constitutions. Many are lamenting at changing character of the nation and constitutions.
