NEW DELHI – CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya has called for withdrawal of cases against several individuals for allegedly waving the Palestinian flag during Muharram processions in Bihar and other states.

Bhattacharya emphasised that raising the Palestinian flag is an act of solidarity with Gaza, where about 39,000 Palestinians have died due to Israeli military actions.

Addressing a press conference in Patna on Thursday, Bhattacharya demanded withdrawal of cases filed against those who waved the Palestinian flag. “India supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and the same policy is upheld by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Therefore, these individuals cannot be accused of any wrongdoing,” he said.

Bhattacharya highlighted multiple incidents of alleged Palestinian flag hoisting, including four in Bihar and a recent incident in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, where the police have made arrests. He stressed that the Palestinian flag represents solidarity with the people of Gaza, pointing out that India has historically supported Palestinian rights, evidenced by the presence of a Palestinian embassy in New Delhi.

Bhattacharya also criticised Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders  Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav for attending the wedding of Anant Ambani, scion of the Ambani family. “In our view, they should not have gone there. We are against the mutually beneficial relationship between business and government. Our political agenda is the opposite. We do not believe in going hand in hand with big businessmen,” he asserted.

He condemned the extravagant display of wealth during the celebrations, pointing out that international flights were allowed entry in violation of norms and roads were closed to the public on the wedding day. “This highlights the economic disparity in India, which we as a party stand against,” Bhattacharya added.

The CPI(ML) Liberation leader also targeted the BJP state government, particularly criticising the Uttar Pradesh police for ordering eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to reveal the names of their owners. “This is a clear case of religious discrimination and against the constitution,” he said.

Bhattacharya’s statements underscore the CPI(ML) Liberation’s stance on various social and political issues, advocating for solidarity with oppressed communities and criticizing the nexus between politics and big business.
