Dalit Youth Beaten to Death in UP’s Muzaffarnagar District

NEW DELHI – Some unidentified miscreants severely thrashed a Dalit youth after holding him hostage for hours. The victim, 21-year-old Ankit, later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

The incident occurred in Jasola village, located in the Khatauli police station area of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

The area police have launched a murder investigation and booked unidentified miscreants under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with charges under the Scheduled Caste and Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act (SC-ST Act), reports reaching here said on Monday.

Local law enforcement officials confirmed the death and said the police, on coming to know of the incident, arrived at the scene and rushed Ankit to a nearby hospital.

Khatauli police area officer Ravi Shankar, addressing the media, provided insights into the unfortunate events. The police have initiated necessary legal procedures by sending the deceased’s body for a post-mortem examination.
