NEW DELHI — A curfew was imposed in Kawardha town of Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district on Tuesday. The decision was taken after a mob of up to 3,000 people, mobilised by Hindutva outfits, took out a march following violence between groups belonging to Hindus and Muslims.
According to Indian Express, the men carried swords, lathis and other locally assembled weapons during the march, allegedly attacking houses and vehicles of people from another community and pelting stones on police personnel.

The tensions broke out after an altercation between two groups over religious flags being taken down on Sunday.
“We have arrested 59 people and are investigating further. We are seeing videos of the incident to identify the miscreants and action will be taken against them,” Vivekanand Sinha, inspector general of police, told the Indian Express.
The police resorted to lathi charge after a dozen people and policemen were injured in clashes.
The government has vowed to take stern action against those responsible for breaking law and order, said TS Deo, a minister who is also in charge of Kabirdham district.
The leaders of the Hindutva outfits who took out the march had assured to maintain order but later claimed their supporters went out of control.
