NEW DELHI —Self-styled cow vigilantes publicly humiliated, abused, and severely beat a Muslim youth in the Uttar Pradesh city of Ghaziabad over accusations linked to “love jihad”.

A viral video shows notorious self-styled cow vigilante Daksh Chaudhary, also known as “Akku Pandit,” and several of his associates, assaulting the Muslim youth, causing him severe injuries and leaving him partially naked.

In the undated footage, the victim is seen surrounded by a group beating him black and blue with a belt and questioning him over claims linked to so-called “love jihad”, a controversial term used by vigilante groups to allege religious conversion through interfaith relationships.

The video shows the victim being forced to apologise after the assault.

For now, it remains unclear whether any formal complaint has been filed with the police.

Daksh Chaudhary has previously been embroiled in several vigilante actions against individuals accused of interfaith relationships.

The video has triggered strong reactions on social media, with users condemning the assault and calling for action against those involved.

One user wrote on X, “Shocking & terrifying, cow vigilantes Daksh Choudhary and Akku Pandit along with his associates, are brutally assaulting a Muslim man… Is there any rule of law left in this country, or not?”

Another user said the assault was unacceptable regardless of the victim’s identity, adding that they did not support such actions and questioned whether any legal action is being taken against those involved.

The term “love jihad” is not recognised under Indian law, but has been repeatedly used in public discourse by various groups in connection with allegations against interfaith couples. Rights advocates have warned that such narratives can contribute to vigilante violence and bypass due process.

Police have not yet issued any statement regarding the viral video.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they emerge.
