Cop Thrashes Dalit Woman in Bihar, Video Goes Viral

NEW DELHI – A Dalit woman was severely thrashed by a police officer in Sitamarhi, Bihar, raising serious concern over the atrocities committed by the law enforcers.

The beating was captured on camera and the video has gone viral. It shows a police officer, identified as Inspector Rajkishore Singh, beating the hapless woman with a stick amid angry exchanges by a crowd of gathered people, reports reaching here said on Monday.

The police assert that the officer was only attempting to maintain order after a fight related to a kidnapping case.

A Sitamarhi Police statement said a probe has been ordered into the incident.

Vinod Kumar, Sub-divisional Police Officer, clarified in a video statement: “The incident is linked to the kidnapping of a girl. The girl was rescued, but the two sides engaged in a fight outside the police station, leading to a traffic jam. The cop used his baton to disperse the crowd.”
