NEW DELHI—The advertisements sponsored by the Congress party raising real issues and countering the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are garnering praises on social media. The latest ad put out by the grand old party is about the need for conducting the caste census in order to ensure the equal representation of the marginalised communities.

This ad starts with turning up of political leaders resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the home of a potter seeking votes along with the other supporters. When the politicians asked for chairs, the people offered them only one chair, despite the presence of two political leaders accompanied by many other supporters. Offended, the leaders ask people to count how many people were there to sit. The people replied that this is what they are also demanding, reffering to “the caste census.”

“We will be counted, then we will get out right,” says elderly man in the advertisement.

People on social media lauded the way the advertisement explained the need for the caste census. Bollywood actress Swara Bhashkar described the ad as “brilliant.”

“BRILLIANT Ad explains the logic of caste census precisely and objectively. Don’t know who the creatives are behind Congress ads this time but TAKE A BOW! Excellent campaign, all the content top notch and effective,” said Bhaskar.

Similarly, the party had put out an advertisement a few days ago taking a dig at the pliable media which is sitting in the lap of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

The 59-second advertisement shows that an anchor resembling Arab Goswami is flattering the government in unbridled manners while sitting in the lap of two political leaders resembling Modi and Amit Shah. The anchor is given a ‘lollipop’ by the two leaders after the program episode finishes.

People on social media also praised the advertisements for pointing out the pliable role of the media in favouring the ruling party.

In another ad, the Congress took a dig at the mangal sutra remarks of PM Modi. The 25-sec ad shows that a labourer man has sold his properties to earn a living and fulfil basic needs of the family. The wife complains that if the situation continues, they will have to sell their mangal sutra.
