SRINAGAR — Asserting that they were hopeful of restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir within the first year of government formation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday (October 16, 2025) requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfil his promise for the same made to the people of the Union territory.
Mr Abdullah also said the National Conference government, which completed one year in office on Thursday (October 16, 2025), is committed to the promises made to the people in its election manifesto, reports PTI.
“We were hopeful that the Centre would fulfil its promise to restore Statehood (to J&K) in the first year of our government, but it has not happened. I request the prime minister and his team to fulfil the promise made to us by restoring Statehood,” Mr. Abdullah said while addressing a press conference here.
The NC government has made efforts to restore Statehood, as “we brought a resolution”, he said.
Mr. Abdullah said his government is working for the betterment of J&K’s people, and it will fulfil all the promises made to them in the run-up to the elections last year.
“When we sought votes from people, it was not for one year but for the full five-year term. People have started raising questions, but I want to tell them, please ask the questions after five years,” Mr. Abdullah said.
‘Not a single promise fulfilled in 365 days’: BJP
The BJP on Thursday castigated J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as his government completed its first year in office, saying that he (Omar Abdullah) has not fulfilled a single promise which the National Conference (NC) had mentioned in their election manifesto.
“Omar Abdullah has forgotten all the promises he made in his manifesto. It has been a full year since his government came to power, and not one commitment made to the people has been honoured,” Tarun Chugh told IANS.
Chugh added that 20 per cent of his tenure has already passed, while he had promised to provide employment to lakhs of youth and assured that the Youth Employment Act would be introduced within three months.
“Instead of reducing unemployment, the queues for jobs are only getting longer. Your government has completely failed to deliver on employment,” he added. — With inputs from agencies
