AJMER— In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old Muslim cleric, Maulvi Mohammad Mahir, was brutally murdered by three unidentified masked assailants in the early hours of Saturday morning in Ajmer’s Kanchan Nagar area. The assailants barged into the mosque where the Maulvi resided, killed him leaving six children traumatized.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Ramganj police station, Ravindra Singh, the incident took place around 3 am on Saturday in the Kanchan Nagar area of Daurai. Singh stated, “The preliminary investigation suggests that three masked individuals were involved in the attack.” He further added that the police are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to gather more leads on the assailants and their motives for the killing.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants gained entry to the mosque through the rare entrance and targeted the room where Maulvi Mohammad Mahir was resting. Alongside him were six children, whom the assailants initially threatened before forcibly removing them from the room. The assailants then attacked Maulvi Mahir with sticks leaving him dead before fleeing the scene with his mobile phone.
Expressing his condolences, Ajmer SP Devendra Kumar Bishnoi stated, “This is a case of senseless violence, and we are utilizing all available technical and investigative resources to identify the perpetrators.” He assured the public that every possible measure is being taken to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice for the victim.
Ravindra Kichi, SHO of Ramganj police station, informed that upon receiving the alert, law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was deployed to gather evidence. Additionally, the FSL team discovered two bloodied sticks behind the mosque, one of which bore traces of blood. The body of Maulvi Mohammad Mahir has been transferred to JLN Hospital for post-mortem examination. Sniffer dogs were used to trace the escape route of the assailants.
Police investigations revealed that Maulvi Mohammad Mahir, originally from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, had assumed the role of the mosque’s head – maulvi, six months ago, following the passing of Imam Zakir. It was also uncovered that internal disputes within the mosque committee may have contributed to the tragic event.
The brutal murder of Maulvi Mohammad Mahir has instilled fear among the local community and has sparked outrage with locals demanding justice for the deceased. Ajmer SP Devendra Kumar Bishnoi emphasized that additional police personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and order in the area.
As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, awaiting answers and hoping for the swift apprehension of the culprits responsible for the heinous crime.
