BENGALURU – Tensions prevailed in Karopadi village in Bantval Taluk in Dakshin Kannada District on Sunday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in a victory rally of their candidate in the Lok Sabha elections raised Hindutva slogans outside a mosque in the village.

A viral video of the rally shows BJP workers chanting “Jai Sri Ram” and “Jai Modi” provocatively in front of the mosque.

The rally was to felicitate Captain Brijesh Chowta who won the Lok Sabha elections in the Dakshina Kannada constituency. The video, widely shared on social media, has upset the local community and sparked controversy.

Many people online are questioning why the police did not take action on their own in this case, while they did so for an incident of namaz being offered on the road near a mosque in Mangaluru’s Kankanady area.

Brijesh Chowta, a former Indian Army official, emerged victorious in the election, defeating the Congress candidate Padmaraj R. Poojary. Chowta secured 7,64,132 votes, accounting for 53.97% of the total votes cast. On the other hand, Poojary garnered 6,14,924 votes, constituting 43.43% of the votes.

Meanwhile, in a post on X, the new BJP MP condemned the alleged attack on two BJP workers in Boliyar in Bantwal suburb of Mangaluru as they returned from an event celebrating the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“This is the third such incident & it is the inaction of the police force in the previous two at Belthangady & Ullal that has let this happen,” the post said.
