NEW DELHI – Firebrand Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and some Hindutva groups have threatened members of the Bengali community near the national capital’s locality of Chitranjan Park for eating fish.
On Tuesday, Moitra posted a video of the incident through her social media account stating that such an incident has never happened during the last 60 years.
“Please watch saffron brigade BJP goons threaten fish-eating Bengalis of Chittaranjan Park, Delhi. Never in 60 years has this happened, residents say,” she said.
The video shows a group of people directing fish sellers not to open their shops near the temple. They said selling fish near the temple is making it impure as killing living things is not allowed in the Sanatan Dharm.
“The fish market near a temple is hurting all Sanatanis,” a Hindutva leader tells shopkeepers. When the shopkeepers said that the market was set up by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Hindutva leader said that they would also tighten the noose around DDA’s neck and make it correct its mistake.

The video also shows a media person questioning a shopkeeper about the ethics behind the killing of animals near a temple. The shopkeeper pointed out that animals are also slaughtered in temples in several places, clearly stunning the questioner.

Moitra said: “The temple in CR park that BJP goons laying claim to was built by the non-veg market vendors! They pray there – the big pujas are held there. 3 months of a BJP govt in Delhi. Good anniversary present”.
The TMC leader also posted a WhatsApp message from some Bengali residents living near the market. The resident described the situation as “terrible” and stated that the fish market and meat shops were closed for the last 10 days.
On Wednesday, Moitra put out a video statement on the issue slamming the BJP government for not arresting all those who harassed the Bengali shopkeepers. She pointed out that the shopkeepers were all Hindus and it goes on to prove that the BJP is anti-Hindu alongside being anti-Muslim.
She said that had the people harassing the shopkeepers been Muslims, the BJP government would put them behind bars by booking them under various charges.
