Education Department launches a 10-day verification drive to review student attendance, teacher appointments, records and infrastructure
NEW DELHI —The Bihar Government has ordered a statewide inspection of all government-aided madrasas and Sanskrit schools, directing district authorities to complete the exercise within 10 days.
The order was issued by Education Department Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, who has asked District Education Officers (DEOs) and local officials to conduct physical verification of institutions receiving government grants. The move is aimed at assessing the functioning of these institutions, verifying records and ensuring compliance with existing rules.
According to the directive, inspection teams will verify the physical presence of students and teachers and examine whether appointments have been made in accordance with prescribed norms. Officials will also review infrastructure, administrative records and other facilities available at the institutions.
The department has instructed inspectors to determine whether enrolled students attend classes regularly and whether teaching and non-teaching staff are working as per official records.
To carry out the inspections, a three-member committee will be formed at the block level. The committee will include the Block Development Officer (BDO) or Circle Officer (CO), the Block Education Officer and a senior headmaster or principal. The teams will visit institutions, examine documents and collect photographic evidence as part of the verification process.
All districts have been directed to submit detailed inspection reports, along with photographs, to the Education Department within 10 days. The reports will form the basis for any further administrative action.
Officials said that if irregularities are found during the inspection, action will be taken in accordance with government rules and regulations.
Focus on Accountability
The exercise is part of the state’s wider effort to strengthen monitoring of government-funded educational institutions and ensure that public funds are being used for their intended purpose. The department has in recent months also sought updated information on students, teachers and staff through digital record-keeping systems.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari has said that the government is committed to maintaining educational standards and ensuring that all institutions receiving state assistance comply with prescribed norms.
Political Reactions
The order has drawn political reactions, with some opposition leaders questioning the timing and scope of the exercise. Government representatives, however, have maintained that the inspections are a routine administrative measure aimed at improving transparency, accountability and the quality of education.
The verification drive is expected to cover all government-aided madrasas and Sanskrit schools across Bihar and is likely to provide the Education Department with updated information on enrolment, staffing and institutional functioning.
