NEW DELHI/PATNA – Citing its failure to deliver on promises and its lack of commitment to social justice, the Congress party in Bihar predicts the imminent fall of the Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Party (NDA) government in the state.
Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Congress MLA from Kadwa Assembly seat in Katihar District, claims that the state government has been ineffective in addressing the needs of the people.
In a scathing attack on the ruling coalition, Khan, who is also the national secretary of the Congress party, labelled the NDA government as “weak and unjust,” accusing it of hindering the progress of Bihar. According to Khan, the administration’s inability to honour the commitments made during its formation will lead to its downfall.
“The NDA government is going to collapse,” Khan emphatically told Clarion India over the phone. “They have failed to fulfill the promises they made to the people. Bihar has seen no substantial development under their rule,” he said emphasising that the state has been deprived of progress due to the coalition’s mismanagement, particularly in areas crucial to social justice and welfare.
Khan voiced his confidence that his party, along with its allies, would decisively defeat the NDA in the upcoming state elections. Drawing attention to the recent political activities of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Khan remarked, “Rahul Gandhi held a significant rally in Begusarai, where issues like migration and social justice were discussed in detail. He has made it clear that the Congress party, along with its allies, will ensure no section of society is left behind.”
In a bid to rally support for the party’s cause, Khan also revealed that Rahul Gandhi had urged Congress leaders to strengthen the party’s presence across the state, particularly in rural areas. “Rahul Gandhi appealed to the leaders to reach beyond Patna and district headquarters and ensure that the party’s ideology reaches the villages,” Khan explained.
He pointed out the stark contrast between the development initiatives under the Congress-led government in the past and the current state of Bihar. “Under the Congress rule, Bihar’s sugar industry flourished, with the state producing 27 percent of the country’s sugar. During the tenure of Shri Krishna Babu in the 1970s and 1980s, industries were thriving from Patna to Barauni. Today, these factories have vanished,” he lamented.
The Congress MLA highlighted the absence of significant industrial progress in Bihar during the NDA government’s rule. He stressed that the state has regressed, especially in key sectors like healthcare and education. Khan pointed to the decline of the iconic Patna Medical College, which once enjoyed a prestigious reputation as the ‘Prince of Wales Medical College.’
“This institution has collapsed. There was a time when Bihar saw real development under the Congress, but today the willpower to achieve such goals is absent,” he said.
Khan made a forceful statement about the upcoming elections, declaring that the Congress party, along with its allies, would fight with full strength to defeat the NDA and reclaim power. “The Congress party and our alliance partners are committed to returning to power and bringing Bihar back on the path of true development,” he stated.
The Congress MLA’s words resonate with a growing sentiment among many in Bihar who feel that the state’s leadership has failed to address their concerns. With his predictions of a shift in political fortunes, Khan has set the stage for what could be a significant battle in the upcoming assembly elections.
