NEW DELHI – A full day has passed since a mob associated with the Bajrang Dal brutally assaulted four Muslim youths, who came to watch a Garba event. The police in Ahmedabad are yet to take notice of the offence leave alone filing an FIR in the case.

Gujarat Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has admitted that its youth wing, the Bajrang Dal, has grabbed some people from other religions who had come to participate in Navratri celebrations. The Hindutva outfit justified the attack which they said they carried out to preempt “love jihad” (a term coined by Hindu extremist groups that roughly refers to a match between a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl).

Their oft-repeated conspiracy theory behind such interfaith marital alliance has been rebutted time and again by the government that boasts of their ideological affiliation.

Admitting their involvement in the assault, VHP spokesperson Hitendrasinh Rajput told The Times of India that “despite being warned, four youths from another religion were spotted at a venue. Our volunteers grabbed them to prevent love jihad”.

The local police confirmed that they are aware of the incident, yet have not filed any FIR in this regard.

“We are aware of the videos and in the process of verifying those. As of now, there is no case filed since no one has come forward to lodge a complaint,” B U Jadeja, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 7, Ahmedabad, told Deccan Herald.

There are several videos that have surfaced on social media with regard to the incident. A video of the incident which is going viral on Twitter shows a mob of many men wearing saffron shawls thrashing a bearded man from all sides while he was trying to escape from their clutches. The man is bleeding profusely.

Reacting to the video, journalist Rohini Singh called the Bajran Dal a “terrorist organization”.

“This is shameful beyond words. Bajrang Dal is a terror organisation out to sow hate and destroy India,” she said.

Advocate Kruna Nandy also called the Bajrang Dal a “terror organisation” and lamented that the UPA government failed to ban the Hidnutva outfit.

“The Bajrang Dal is blatantly a terror organisation. That the UPA failed to ban them doesn’t make this any less true,” she said.

Some People on social media also demanded imposition of a ban on the Bajrang Dal after the videos showing the brutal assault on Muslim youths have gone viral on social media.

“VHP and Bajrang Dal extremists humiliated and mercilessly thrashed a Muslim man after his presence at a Garba venue was tipped off. This is what ‘terror activity’ looks like. Neither NIA will dare to raid them nor will any Govt ban these organizations,” tweeted Saif Patel.
According to the reports, there are several such videos related to the incident.

A video shows Bajrang Dal men holding placards displaying messages against “love jihad” outside Sky Universal Garba venue on SBR on Tuesday night. The youths were making abusive comments against Muslims in one of the videos. They were also seen applying tilak on the foreheads of male garba enthusiasts to ensure that no man from the minority community enters the venue.

In another video, some Bajrang Dal workers were seen chasing a man while simultaneously hurling abuses at him. They were seen asking the man why he entered the venue despite being a Muslim and accused him of entrapping Hindu girls.
