ALIGARH — “Defeat paves the way for a resounding victory and it is always more important to participate than win a competition”, said Professor Tariq Mansoor, Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University while addressing the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected office bearers of Women’s College Students’ Union (WCSU).

Prof Mansoor said that success also invites criticism and a successful person must take it as an opportunity to refine his ways. He said that learning process is endless and we should learn from our defeats while making efforts to garner victory.

The Vice Chancellor urged the students to come up with suggestions and ideas to make the administration more responsive. Referring to the renovation of Abdullah Hall and the auditorium, he said that efforts will be made to fulfill students’ demands and provide them with better facilities.

Prof Tabassum Shahab, Pro-Vice Chancellor urged the students to take part in all competitive activities as it would help them polish their personal skills. He advised them to focus on their studies, which is their prime objective.

The WCSU election hit headlines this week particularly because some of the girl candidates had campaigned while riding on bullets and bikes.

Newly elected President of WCSU, Naba Naseem said that in elections, a person either wins or learns how to remedy his or her deficiencies. She assured that the Union will work for the betterment of all students.

The Vice President, Nida Akram said that “efforts will be made to address problems of all students and we will work as a team”. She said that students need to come forward and express their views putting aside their inhibition.

Honorary Secretary, Fabeha Ahmad said that the Students’ Union will take all along and problems will be solved in a collective way.

Earlier, while expressing her view, Prof Naima Gulrez, Principal of the College, hoped that the new Union will work for the betterment of all students. She thanked the Vice Chancellor for extending assistance in upgrading various facilities including construction of five smart classrooms, computer lab and renovation of auditorium.

Chief Election Officer, Prof Hina Pervez congratulated the office bearers of the Students’ Union and urged them to work for the development of the College and general good of the students.

Dr Hameeda Tariq, Prof Zeba Shirin, Provost, Abdullah Hall and other senior teachers were present on the occasion.
