ALIGARH — Showing their resentment at the administration’s attempt to forcibly evict them from their residence hall, senior research scholars from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) staged a sit-in at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge here on Thursday.

The students raised slogans and created a ruckus. A viral video of the incident is being shared widely on social media.

The students allege that the management of Muhammad Habib Hall tried to evict them during the night, despite the fact that research scholars are permitted to stay in the residence hall during summer vacations. They claim that during this attempted eviction, they were subjected to abuse and misbehaviour.

One student, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “We were asked to leave the hall in the middle of the night. The administration’s actions are unjust, and we are completing our research work here. It is our right to stay in the hall during this period.”
