GHAZIABAD — A madrasa in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram locality has been unsealed and its possession restored to its management committee following Allahabad High Court directions on a petition filed by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), which challenged the closure.
Madrasa Jamia Khulfa-i-Rashideen was sealed on June 6, 2026. APCR’s Uttar Pradesh chapter challenged the action before the Allahabad High Court through Writ Petition No. 25563/2026.
On October 30, the High Court directed the concerned authorities to take a decision on the matter within two weeks. It clarified that if no adverse order was passed against the petitioner within the stipulated period, the seal would have to be removed.
Acting on the court’s directions, the District Minority Welfare Officer in Ghaziabad initiated the process of unsealing the premises and restoring possession to the madrasa’s management committee, APCR said.
The madrasa was sealed following allegations that cow meat had been dumped into the Hindon River. According to APCR, Ghaziabad Mayor Sunita Dayal had alleged that cow meat was thrown into the river and had stopped and intimidated minor students of the madrasa while they were on their way.
APCR further alleged that pressure was exerted on the administration to initiate criminal proceedings against the madrasa’s teachers, resulting in their arrest and imprisonment. The teachers were subsequently granted bail by the Allahabad High Court.
Challenging the sealing, APCR contended that the administrative action against the institution was unlawful. The organisation said its legal intervention had secured relief for the madrasa and enabled the restoration of its premises.
Advocates Mohammad Khalid and Umar Khalid represented APCR before the Allahabad High Court, while Advocate Nadeem Akhtar represented the organisation in Ghaziabad.
In its statement, APCR said it would continue to pursue legal remedies against administrative actions that, in its view, violate the rights of individuals and institutions.
