NEW DELHI — Social media users have lavishly praised Muslims for the peaceful manner in which they celebrated the Eid festival across the country a couple of days ago. Invariably, they also compared the orderly organisation of Eid prayers by the over 20 crore Muslims with large-scale violence, rioting, cases of arson, raising of anti-Islam and Muslim slogans by Hindutva fanatics and delivering of hate speeches witnessed during the recent Ramnavami celebration in different parts of the country.

Several states were affected by the violence during the Ramnavami celebrations with Bihar and West Bengal bearing most of the brunt.

The sharp difference between the celebrations of the two festivals was not lost on social media users.

Author Ranadeb Bhattacharya said that this difference in celebrations has compelled him to ponder on the issue.

“On this day 19.5 crore Indian Muslims are celebrating Eid all over India. There is not one instance of violence, loud music blaring from DJ boxes before temples, unruly crowds running berserk, or a single instance of organised villainy,” he said.

Swedish Professor Ashok Swain said Muslims don’t play provocative music and shout abusive slogans around religious places of Hindus during the Eid celebrations.

“In Eid, Muslims don’t take motorcycle and bulldozer rallies, carry swords and guns and play provocative music and give abusive slogans around Hindu places of worship,” he tweeted.

He was reacting to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement saying that there were no riots during the Eid celebrations.

“Today, it’s Eid, and there are no riots in the state. No one’s commute is affected. The law & order situation is under control. There’s peace & this is because everyone knows that the law treats everyone equally. This is only possible if there is a sensitive administration,” said Adityanath at an event in Azamgarh.

Filmmaker Vinod Kapari shared a video of the peaceful celebration of Eid saying that recently some people were celebrating their festival by abusing others, vandalising properties and raising violent slogans.

Social media activist Asif Khan said there was no violence during Eid because Muslims don’t carry weapons during the celebrations.

“Today 200 million Muslims are celebrating Eid in India. Have you seen any video of Muslims dancing in front of worship places of other faith, chanting provocative slogans and playing genocidal pop music?” asked Khan in another Tweet.
