WASHINGTON — The United States has urged India and Pakistan to find a solution to the Kashmir conflict, which has been the cause for conflict among the two nuclear-armed nations in recent times.

Addressing a press briefing, spokesperson for the United States Department of State John Kirby said that USA wanted Pakistan and India to find a solution to the problem in Kashmir.

“With regard to Kashmir, the stance of the United States remains the same and has not changed,” he said. “Tension between the two states can be brought down through meaningful negotiations,” he added.

Kirby said that he wasn’t aware of any bill against Pakistan in the American Congress. He hoped the current tension between India and Pakistan would fade and stated that terrorism would be harmful for the entire region.

“We will keep on working with Pakistan, Afghanistan and other governments to eliminate terrorism,” said Kirby. “USA will keep on cooperating with regard to ending safe havens for terrorists,” he said.

Kirby further said that the United States had been stressing on the need for eliminating terrorists sanctuaries. He also spoke about Pakistan’s nuclear assets and expressed the hope that they were in safe hands.

“The United States hopes Pakistan has made adequate arrangements to secure its nuclear assets,” he said.
