Minor Road Accident Escalates into Communal Violence in UP’s Amroha

The house of a Muslim attacked, looted and set ablaze in Daulatpur village, raising serious concerns over the safety of the community members.

AMROHA — What began as a minor collision of two vehicles in the village of Daulatpur under the jurisdiction of Naugawan Sadat police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district has turned into a disturbing episode of communal violence, severely affecting the local Muslim community. The family of Ibne Hasan, a respected resident, has been left shaken after their home was broken into, ransacked, and set on fire by an aggressive mob following an argument sparked by a trivial road accident.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday when Javed, son-in-law of Ibne Hasan, was driving to his in-laws’ home to bring back his wife, Shabana, who got married to him on 10 June. While on the way, Javed’s car collided with a motorcycle ridden by Bablu Singh and a companion in the Majhra area. Although the accident was minor, tempers flared and a confrontation soon erupted between the two parties.

Eyewitnesses report that the motorcyclists severely assaulted Javed and caused damage to his car. “They beat him brutally and smashed his vehicle for no reason,” said a neighbour who wished to remain anonymous. Injured and shocked, Javed reached his in-laws’ residence in a distressed condition.

Matters worsened rapidly when a large group assembled and forcefully entered Ibne Hasan’s home. The mob reportedly attacked women and children, looted valuables including cash, jewellery, and mobile phones, and finally set the house ablaze. “Our entire household has been destroyed,” lamented a tearful family member who escaped into the nearby forest to save his life. “It was terrifying. They showed no mercy to women or children.”

Adding to the tragedy, two cattle belonging to the family were also burned to death during the attack. The local fire brigade was alerted and rushed to the scene, working hard to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further to neighbouring homes.

Senior police officials responded swiftly. Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand personally visited the site and assured the community of stern measures against the perpetrators. “We are investigating the incident thoroughly and will take strict action against those responsible,” SP Anand said. Heavy police deployment is currently maintaining order in the village to prevent further unrest.

Despite the severity of the attack, the victim’s family has not yet filed a formal complaint with the police station, possibly due to fear and trauma. Reports suggest that several accused individuals have fled the village to avoid arrest.

This incident raises serious questions about the safety and security of Muslims in the state. Minor disagreements appear increasingly exploited by some to target Muslim families, escalating into communal violence. Locals express concern over growing tensions and the seeming lack of swift preventive action.

“We fear for our safety. A small accident should never turn into an attack on innocent people’s homes,” said a neighbour. “Muslims here want peace and harmony, but these repeated attacks leave us vulnerable and frightened.”

Community leaders have called for urgent intervention from higher authorities to restore confidence among minorities and prevent future outbreaks of violence. “This is not just about one family; it is about the dignity and rights of all Indian Muslims,” said one prominent local activist. “We demand justice and safety for every citizen, regardless of their religion.”

As the investigation continues, Amroha’s Muslim residents remain on edge, hoping the law enforcement agencies will deliver justice and that communal harmony can be preserved.
