AHMEDABAD – Supporters of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Saturday protested here against the ongoing mob violence targeting minorities in various states across the country. The rally participants voiced their dissatisfaction not only with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but also with the Congress party for their perceived inaction.

Maulana Owais Shaikh, President of SDPI Gujarat, highlighted the alarming increase in mob violence incidents. “People of a particular religion are being targeted,” he said. “The BJP-led central government has not taken any concrete steps to control these incidents. Moreover, the opposition parties remain silent on this matter. There is no one to speak out against these heinous acts.”

SDPI Ahmedabad President Abraruddin criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his lack of response to the victims of mob lynching. “Rahul Gandhi has no time for people who are victims of mob lynching,” he stated. “While he travels and meets various groups, he remains silent on the issue of mob violence.” Abraruddin also accused the BJP of encouraging such incidents post the Lok Sabha elections. “We want to end the hatred that is being created within the country,” he added.

Irshad Sheikh, another SDPI member, pointed out the continuity of mob lynching incidents even after the formation of the new government. “Many cases have also surfaced in Gujarat. SDPI has raised its voice against them, but the cases of mob lynching persist,” he said. “We have taken to the streets to demand severe punishment for the perpetrators.”

The protest in Ahmedabad is part of a broader series of demonstrations by SDPI and other groups against the rising tide of violence and intolerance. The protesters called for immediate and stringent actions to curb the violence and ensure justice for the victims.
