BAREILLY – Chaos reigns in the Uttar Pradesh city of Bareilly as the perpetrators behind the recent rioting, triggered by demands for the arrest of Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, continue to elude authorities. Despite extensive police efforts, no one has been apprehended, leaving the city tense and apprehensive.

The riot erupted following Maulana Khan’s impassioned plea against the recent demolition of mosques and madrassas in perceived discrimination against Muslims, and permission granted to Hindus to worship in the southern cellar of Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Masjid. After dispersing from the gathering on Friday, agitators wreaked havoc on the Shahmatganj area, assaulting pedestrians and vandalising vehicles and bicycles.

Efforts to identify and nab the culprits are underway. To facilitate their arrest pamphlets have also been distributed. Two cases have been registered against unidentified individuals at the Baradari Police Station (Case No. 110 RA Farad) based on eyewitness reports.

Senior police officials have expressed concern over the unidentified printing press responsible for the provocative pamphlets. Utilising CCTV footage and mobile videos, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice prevails.

The initial focus is on identifying and arresting the accused, with individuals cooperating by identifying suspects from provided photographs. However, the press linked to the pamphlets located in Twali\ remains elusive.

A police team has filed a report against unknown perpetrators at the Baradari police station and is actively seeking the owner of the footage.

With approximately 15 individuals still at large, additional measures have been implemented, including the establishment of police pickets in strategic locations by SSP Ghole Sushil Chandra Bhan, to bolster security across Bareilly and Uttarakhand.
