AHMEDABAD – A truck driver, Bacha Khan (37), has been arrested for offering namaz on the roadside in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district. The arrest followed a viral video of the incident.

The video, recorded on January 12, captured Khan praying near his truck at an intersection near Palanpur city. The incident unfolded on a highway near a bustling intersection, where Khan, having stopped his truck, began his prayers. The video gained traction on social media platforms, prompting swift police intervention.

Khan has been charged under Sections 283 (endangerment on public road), 186 (obstructing the performance of duties of a public servant), and 188 (disobedience to an order issued by a public servant). A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against him.

The arrest highlights the growing influence of social media in bringing attention to such incidents and the subsequent legal actions taken by authorities to maintain public safety.

As the legal proceedings unfold, this incident sparks discussions on the balance between religious practices and public safety, emphasising the need for individuals to adhere to traffic regulations and ensure smooth use of public spaces.
