NEW DELHI — The Bengaluru police have registered an FIR against a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader for making derogatory remarks against Muslims during a Facebook Live session.

The FIR against Bijan Das, a resident of Bengaluru in Karnataka, was filed after the police received a complaint from one Ashik Hussain on July 30, media reports reaching here said on Wednesday.

Adugodi police have registered a case against Das under Sections 295A (punishment for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The complaint said Das appeared on a Facebook Live session on July 19, where he allegedly made offensive comments in Bengali and labelled “all Muslims as terrorists” and used objectionable language against women from the community. Furthermore, the complaint said Das claimed that “All Muslims have come from Bangladesh” and insinuated that Muslims were originally Hindus who converted and are now “Jihadis”.

Das’ Facebook profile indicates he is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the VHP. Das claims to be a ‘Procharak’ (Pracharak) of the VHP and a native of Dharmanagar of Tripura, media reports said.

A police officer said they have received the video link from the complainant and are looking for more details.
