NEW DELHI — Mumbai Police has asked Youtube India for action against a channel “If vs But” following a complaint by a lawyer alleging that it posts hate content about Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Islam.

Saif Alam had filed an online complaint under sections 153 (A) 153 (B) 504 505 (1) 505 (2) 295 (A) of Indian Penal Code and 67 of IT Act demanding permanent ban of the account.

The complaint said that the channel is anonymous and instigates hatred towards Muslims by making “derogatory and venomous” comments about Islam. It further says that the content on the channel is aimed at disturbing peace in the society.

Alam said that after filing the complaint he got a response from cyber police Mumbai who informed him that they have asked Google to remove the channel from its video platform.

Several social media users showed anger towards the channel and asked people to report the channel with more than 1.4 million subscribers.

“Absolutely disgusting to know such a channel has over a million subscribers and YouTube has not taken action,” wrote a filmmaker in his  Instagram  stories urging his 24 thousand followers to report the channel.

An online petition has also been started urging people to report that channel. The channel has been accused of using vulgar language and speeches against Islam

The petition while calling on people to sign requests YouTube “to delete this channel immediately” on grounds that it violates the platform’s community standards by allegedly promoting Islamophobia and using vulgar content.

Saif said that if YouTube does not accept their request to remove the channel, he may then approach court.
