NEW DELHI — Two Muslim garment sellers were allegedly attacked by residents inside a housing colony in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday night after being questioned about their identity.

The victims, identified as Aamir Malik and his nephew Javed, earn their living by selling clothes door to door.

According to reports, they had gone to Vasundhara Colony in the Nai Mandi Kotwali area of the city after reportedly receiving a call from a resident interested in buying garments.

However, the visit allegedly took a violent turn when some locals stopped them and began questioning them about their identity.

Upon learning that they were Muslims, the locals started beating them up.

Several videos of the incident later surfaced on social media, showing the two men bleeding from the injuries sustained in the attack. The clips quickly drew outrage online, with many demanding strict action against those involved.

Police said they rushed to the colony after receiving information about the incident and shifted both men to a hospital for treatment.

During the initial investigation, officials found that Aamir and Javed do not have any criminal background.

Raju Kumar Sao, Circle Officer of Nai Mandi, said police were informed on Sunday evening that two men had been detained by residents in Vasundhara Colony.

“Police immediately reached the spot and collected details about the matter. It was later confirmed that the two individuals were Aamir Malik and Javed,” the officer said.

Authorities said the investigation is still underway and all angles are being examined. Police are also reviewing videos and witness accounts to identify those responsible and decide on further legal action.
