PATNA – Asaduddin Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) comprehensively won the Kishanganj seat in by-polls in the east of Bihar state.
The party is represented by Qamar ul Hoda who secured a total of 70469, according to the data provided by the Election Commission of India.
The seat had become vacant after its representative Javed Alam of the Congress was elected to Parliament in May.
Hoda’s win came as a surprise after his win margin stayed a whopping 10204 votes. He was followed by BJP’s Sweety Singh who got 60265 votes.
The total number of votes cast in the by-polls here were 169969. Hoda bagged 41.46% of vote share.
Once the leads on the seat started becoming visible, the supporters of AIMIM came out on streets dancing and waving the green party flags. They chanted slogans and danced to the beating drums.
Congress’ Saeeda Bano stood at third with 25285. Of the nine candidates in the fray, six were Muslims including three independent. Firoz Alam of CPI got 2711 votes.
According to the 2011 census, In Kishanganj district Muslims are in majority (68%). However, the literacy rate stands at abysmal 55%, though much better than the 2001 statistics.
Zafar ul Alam of Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) won the Simriyal Bakhtarpur constituency after defeating Janta Dal’s Arun Kumar.
Alam managed to bag 71441 (42.42%) while as Dr Kumar got 55936 (33.21). Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) had no candidate in the fray here.
Meanwhile, reports pouring in from Maharashtra suggest that All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen was leading on three seats in the assembly elections. Here, the incumbent BJP and Shiv Sena are set to form the government.
